The Tourist Ombudsman with the UNWTO to discuss the International Code for the Protection of Tourists.
La Dra. Cintia Bruno, Director of the Executive Management of Tourist Rights; and the legal and tourism advisers, Susana Ayala, Cindy Barnoin and Mercedes Adrogué; met today virtually with Dr.. Diego Benitez, lawyer expert in tourism law and one of the three summoned by the World Tourism Organization (IN ORDER TO) as a consultant to develop the International Code for the Protection of Tourists.
El Dr. Benítez will work on the new code on behalf of America together with his colleagues from Malawi, Charlotte Wezi Mesikano Marketing (representing Africa), and from Italy, Francesco Morandi (representative of Europe) with the aim of unifying criteria of assistance to tourists in the world based on the recommendations outlined.
The objective of the meeting was to know the task that the expert is developing. In that sense, The expert pointed out that the UNWTO suggested launching basic guidelines to generate confidence in tourists and resolve emergency situations, por ejemplo, in case of border closures, defining how to distribute responsibilities to prevent tourists from being stranded.
From the Tourist Office, the particular interest in the protection of tourists was highlighted. La Dra. Bruno explained what the role of the Buenos Aires body is, describing the activities carried out in defense of the rights of the tourist user as a consumer of tourist services, accompanying and assisting him especially in these times of pandemic by Covid-19.
The specialist emphasized the importance of the work carried out by the Tourist Ombudsman and promised to be in contact by updating the information and making progress in this process that begins.
